Artist Statement
Photography is art. I'd like to think of it as any other art with a canvas and an idea. I would like to describe my work as simple yet effective and clearly demonstrates the types of pictures I enjoy taking. My work is mostly made up of macro photography, a type of photography where you can see all the details in a subject. I feel like macro photography highlights the true capability of a photographer because it enhances on the things you should be thinking of like lighting, balance, etc. Photographers like Ansel Adams inspire my work because he focuses on detail in his work. Although it isn't macro photography, the way he takes the picture still enhances all the details in the picture. He makes it clear and when you zoom in, you can see all the unique features in the photo. When we were doing the history remake project, I searched him up and stumbled on many of his other work. I just enjoy photos that are simple yet display a lot of detail in them. It could be a normal picture, but could be taken in a way where everything is just more detailed.
My theme in my photos usually revolve around house hold objects and nature. House hold objects as in objects that are small enough to fit on a table and they're usually with a lot of details. I like to capture the unique features in the objects so when it's smaller. People don't usually pay attention to random non-important objects, but I find those objects the most important in photography because things that you don't normally think to be beautiful, can be photographed as beautiful as a sunset. I also love taking pictures of nature like sunsets, sunrises, flowers, and nature in general. There are usually very little editing on the pictures because I feel like the picture is "worth more" if it's as natural as possible. I love taking macro photos of things like flowers because you can see the amazing features and details
The meaning behind my work is expressed pretty clearly in my work. I enjoy the little things in life and capturing them in photos make them even more special. I have a deep appreciation for nature which explains all my pictures of the sky and flowers. Another meaning behind my work is that things that don't seem important, can be photographed to look like the grand prize. I took a photo of a little trophy I won at a piano recital, and the photo turned out to look all grand and important. It's a symbol of music and success. The overall meaning behind all of my work is you have to look closer in order to achieve the most beautiful photos.
